The Blackcoat's Daughter is exactly what I want from a supernatural/possession film, a slow-burn weighted down with doom--it's the only way I'll have it--moody and disjointed, not full of overzealous jump scares and caricatures carefully structured into a bland linear narrative. The movie follows two storyines, the first centering around a pair of girls, Kat and Rose. The two have no choice but to stay at their Catholic school when neither girl's parents arrive to pick them up for. Skip. if blood makes you queasy. "The Blackcoat's Daughter" may be moody and evocative, but there's knife-play and bloodshed aplenty in its climactic scenes, and Perkins doesn't hold back on the gore.
